"It's a testament to the generosity of the wonderful people in this area." -gushes director.
Call it too much of a good thing.
Last week, in a fundraising tee-off at a local golf course, Santa Clara's United Way Director Mollie Poppenetti begged generous contributors: "Enough."
"While we certainly appreciate the huge influx of cash into our county's charitable causes, we simply don't have the resources or manpower to handle the sheer amount of dollars coming in." added Ms. Poppenetti with a triumphant smile: "Now that we've eliminated poverty in Santa Clara, we don't need it either."

End Of The Workplace Giving program.
Under the United Way's directions, employees of local companies participating in the Workplace Giving program will no longer have money automatically deducted from their paychecks. "In many cases, for instance, long time contributors will actually get some money back." said one grateful fundraiser.
While the United Way was critical to bringing low-income families much needed relief, the sheer amount of money that was brought in by the many caring people of Santa Clara county has all but eliminated the need for the organization "until sometime in 2078, long after I'm able to kick up my heels and raise some money." joked Ms. Poppenetti.
"As this wonderful organization comes to a grateful end, on behalf of the people of Santa Clara county, we would like to simply say: "Thanks." Thanks to all contributors, both of money, time, and resources, you have made a shining example of what can happen when people get together and put community first."
