Light-hearted execs recapture childhood in down-to-earth, old fashioned soap box derby.

30 million raised during some sort of little car thingy.

It was sun, fun, money, deal making, back patting, and, oh yes, some little car thingies. Last week in Menlo Park, normally edgy venture capitalists, underwriters, and other "Valley types" raised 30 million dollars to let everyone know how smart and rich they are, as well as help some sort of charity thing. "You can rest assured, it wasn't the Santa Clara United Way." smirked on exec. "I think it was for some kinda Stanford college thingy. Whatever it was, it'll keep the money locally, in our pockets, where it belongs."

"Damn, I'm rich!" cried Jocko Jones, a CFO for NettyNetNet Solutions, that one internet company in San Jose, as he started to zoom down a quickly constructed artificial hill. "I wanna thank the city for letting us pay $170,000 to close the street for a day, so we could do this."

"Man, what a blast!" enthused Jim Sarvanherrenva, the winner. "I never knew you could have so much fun just by throwing $13,000 at some guys to build you a custom fiberglass racer. They even put helium in the tires, to lower overall weight. No wonder I won!"

"To be fair." Jocko countered, momentarily putting aside his cel phone. "I only spent $8,400 on my racer, which has tires filled with regular air. Plus, I got a homeless man caught up in the wheels of my racer halfway down!"

After some light-hearted banter and swapping of business cards via infared Palm VII, all in attendence agreed they would have to meet again next year.

"Dibs on sponsoring!" Cried on 3Com executive.
